What is a boat, ship or liner. What are the definitions of size for each class?

Answers:
U.S. Navy definition of boat vs ship: A ship is capable of carrying a boat. Therefore a boat can be carried on a ship. Submarines are the exception. A liner is a ship owned/operated as a business venture by a shipping line company, primarily for transporting passengers. Liners can carry freight and freighters can carry passengers, but their primary source of revenue determines classification.
