My KTM Duke has a problem with the starter clutch. Is this a common problem with KTMs?

Answers:
You don't mention which Duke you've got. The new one is fuel injected - the older single cylinder Duke was carbureted, and I believe ran the FCR style carb like the dirt models.

If it's got the Keihin FCR carb, then Ted has the right answer, don't touch the throttle until the engine fires.

If its the twin FI model, then the throttle still shouldn't be touched until the engine catches - especially after you turn on the key and before you fire it up.

I haven't heard of any starter issues on the early Duke (the new twin hasn't been out long enough for a history to develop) - I've owned other KTM's for years, and never had starter issues with them.
my boss bought a brand new KTM 950supermoto 6 months ago and from the word go it seemed to 'kick-back' on the starter motor. he took it back to the dealers and they told him it is common if you twist the throttle when working the starter. i dont know if its got an automatic choke but if you just press the button and NO throttle it fires up just fine, good luck. happy riding
