My car needs a vic check?
Answers:
try www.rac.co.uk that will tell you, it's under the 'my car' section.. curiously, why does it need a vic?
Please understand that my information is quite a few years old, but I am sure things will not have changed all that much!
I am presuming that you have been asked to take your car along for the police to look at. Okay, so the police will be understanding about your problem. But would you rather know that you are carrying your wife/girlfriend/mother/child in a deathtrap? That way, you can do something about it. If it was a write-off, there was a reason for this. (and it is amazing how many cars were stolen and set alight between sending out letters and the appointment!)
Basically, they examine the car very carefully. They check the VIN matches the vehicle. They make sure that all the safety features are okay. They check the vehicle is not a cut-n-shunt and that there are no 'folds' , cracks or creases in any of the strength bits (eg. frame). If there are, it means they are much more likely to break if you have even a minor bump.
However, in future I hope you will get your car checked out by someone like the AA or RAC! It is worth wasting a few quid and save yourself a few thousand!
Hi there, i had this issue once.. It's not a big deal at all.
The Vic test is done at a VOSA site by one of thier mechanics, it is a safety check to ensure that your car isn't whats called a "cut and shut" really that is is not the front of one car and the rear of another welded together and sold on by some git with no scruples, it doesn't matter if your car was written off by an insurance company (It's not always a safety thing, but usually a financial one - the car i had was written off because the locks got busted, it was an old car) so dont worry bout the test, it really is for your benefit.
Remember, if your car is a "Cut and shut" it will fall apart in a crash, most likely killing all in the car, as a lot of poor souls have unfortunately found out.. DONT RISK IT!!
