Whenever i reverse the light does not come on. its not the bulb, because i have changed that? any ideas?
Answers:
Maybe it's the fuse or there is a loose connection
either the fuse OR the reverse gear switch
have you tried the fuse
Check the reverse switch. If you replaced the bulb and it did'nt work then the switch is most likely bad.
The wire may have came off the switch.
It could be the reverse light switch located on the gear linkage! but check fuses first 1
There are a number of possible problems:
1) Check the fuse
2) If there's only one wire going to the lamp, the return runs through the car body. Make sure everything is clean and screwed up tight.
3) If the bulb is a festoon type (short tube with a pointed metal connector at eact end. Make sure that the bulb holder is clean.
4) If it's none of these, it's probably the chassis connection at the reversing switch. This is normally under the gaiter next to the gear shift, but it depends on the model of your car.
Loose wire possibly or a poor contact on the bulb.
Dodgy connection between the bulb and the fuse? I'd take it to my local garage and look all pathetic at them until they took pity on me.. the "I'm just a wee blonde girlie" works wonders!
check fuse or wires
'The wire may have came off the switch.'
This is what happened to mine. Local garage fixed it for tenna.
worto.
When you select reverse gear, a little switch, usually somewhere on the gearbox housing and operated as the reverse gear is selected, closes, and the reversing lights go on.
So. assuming you have checked the relevant fuse (and the bulb and its holder (corrosion?) in the reversing light housing), the problem could be (1) a u/s switch, (2) the lead could have fallen off the switch, (3) the operating mechanism in the gearbox is u/s (unlikely), (4) the lead has gone open circuit somewhere along its route to the reversing light. That's about it!
could be a fuse, but most probably waters got into the bulb housing and that needs replacing.
What kind of car ?
Most reverse light sw are on the tranny.
I would check the fuse first, then the connections at the switch, then the switch, easily check with a multi meter!
The switch will earth down the lead so when you find the switch - look in your library for a Haynes manual - pull off the wire and earth it to the metal around it. This should turn the light on. If it doesn't the switch is knackered.
