How long before I can pay the tax on my car (U.K.)?

I took out insurance on my car 3 days ago. Ive tried to pay the road tax via the vehicle licence website, but the website is saying there is no record of my vehicle being insured on the motor insurance database. Can anyone tell me how long I need to wait before the motor insurance database will register my insurance thus allowing me to pay my tax?

Answers:
When you took out insurance on the car, you will have been issued with a cover note for 30 days, this is to cover the period between the inseption of the policy and the policy being issued thats why there is no record, it could take up to 30 days to appear on the database.
Take your cover note and mot along with the green new owner slip to the post office, it will be quicker.
It should be instantaneous, call your insurance company and get them to look into it. Meanwhile, ask them to fax you a cover note if you havent recieved your documents and take that to a post office
As soon as it shows up on the webpage, which will be as soon as someone takes the time to enter it. Keep checking back.
I would suggest you go to the post office with your documents if you are untaxed instead of waiting for databases.
you might be better taking your document's to the post office and doing it there. at least you wouldn't have to wait
The Motor Insurers Database can take up to a week to update, so you won't be able to tax it on line 'till then

Have to do it at a post office
