Is undertaking on british roads legal or illegal?
Answers:
see the highway code because whilst illegal the wording leaves it open if it is busy etc etc. However it can be really annoying. In the states I believe it is legal but much lower freeway speeds 55mph,,,, someone correct me if wrong.
illegal
UNDERTAKING..does it sound right to you? NO! Its illegal and damn right annoying, but it doesnt stop me doing it..LOL
it's illegal and dangerous, and that adam m is a jerk.
it depends on the circumstances.
If you are in 'seperate queues of traffic' it's legal, otherwise it's illegal.
As per the Highway code it is illeagal
on the motorway you can do it if the traffic is moving slower in the outside lane. highway code rule 242
illegal / undertaking = undertaker
Illegal in the main, but most sane people would agree it's necessary.
Technically illegal, but if the person you are undertaking is indicating to turn right it is not.
Other exceptions are
- where the person you are undertaking is not driving at the speed of the road ( like where it is obvious in a 50 limit the driver is doing 25..). This is however difficult to prove in a court of law should you be caught.
- On a motorway where the inside lanes are standing traffic or slow due to road conditions.
General rule is with the exception of the motorway queue, don't do it
its a breach of the highway code and you can be done for driving without due care and attention (3-6 points) although its pretty unlikley you'll get done unless your damn unlucky
CYCLISTS DO IT ALL THE TIME
illegal yes but you get these idiot middle lane drivers so you just got to do it sometimes
Cyclist can do it on cycle lanes. This is a dangerous manoeuvre even with stationery vehicles as the stupid drivers can open their doors or even move off suddenly. They cannot see you in the outside mirror. Overtaking is safer and these cycle lines are no advantage at all.
it is illegal and you will end up at the undrttakers.
illegal
it is GENERALLY illegal.
BUT, if say in two or three lanes or queuing traffic you ARE allowed to move farter than cars to your right.
It is also LEGAL to undertake if the person in the lanes to your right (overtaking lanes) is travelling below the posted speed limit. You DO NOT need to slow down, although be VERY cautious of them cutting back in!!
when you took your driving test , the theory part of it referred to this, Undertaking is forbidden in this country,,, except when on a lined separate lane on a motorway or A road .set aside as a road for use for one destination.or designated area,of a region or town etc,
Depends which side you're on!
UNdertaking is illegal, unless you are in a filter lane, one way road, or your moving out of the way for emergany vehicle.
But in real life undertaking happens everyday, and every time i go up the M6. Along with people hogging the middle and outer lanes. All the camaras on the M6 and i would think more people would be getting find for drivving offences on the motorway. but oviously not!.
Indeed it is, as the highway code will point out. A fact that was crammed into my head as a learner when I ended up undertaking a Corsa being driven well below the speed limit.
its illegal unless you are a foreign driver then they either don't know any difference OR they don't give a dam
illegal
It is illegal unless there is a congesstion, have a look at the highway code book. Which is just a helpful guide line and not considered law.
