Why do boats moor on bouys and not girls ?
Answers:
The boats are the girls - always feminine
because the person who invented them was called bouy?
The Americans pronounce it as Boo---e
because us sailors prefer bouys
Boats have always tied up to BUOYS
Nowt secure enough to tie the rope to on girls!
because bouys have the wee bit you need to tie on to! Lol. Good question, made me laugh.
It is unclear whether the word derives from the Old Germanic bouhhan=beacon or from the Old French boie=fetter or chain (because it was fettered to a spot). Its modern derivative, buoyant, refers to its ability to float even though its two possible origins do not. Nice pun, though.
easy.bouys are anchored and don't move appreciatively."gulls" are flighty and move around too much.
I like the answer regarding the boats being the girls. I wouldn't want to tie up to a nun or a can, but have had to in case of extreme fog in the Erie Canal and in the Hudson.
Because there are moor bouys than girls.
buoy-ANCY,or float,DA
they would get pregnant
