Anyone know how to change a Lamda Sensor?
Answers:
if you open the bonnet and look just behind the radiator you will see the exhaust manifold with a silver heat shield covering it - in the centre of it is a hole with the lambda or o2 or oxygen sensor sticking out of it - you may be able to get a good fitting 22 mm spanner on to it and turn it anticlockwise to open it. it will be very tight. if you can`t get the spanner on to it a there is a special socket you can buy. just ask in halfords or the like for a lambda sensor socket. once it is loose disconnect the wire at the block connector it just unclips. the light should go off on this model if not there is still a fault.
A lamda sensor is just the European version of an oxygen sensor. The sensor is located in the exhaust pipe or pipes [ sometimes there are two] between the engine and the catalytic converter. It kind of looks like a spark plug with one or more wires comming out of it. Before you change the sensor or sensors make sure the engine and exhaust are cold. If the light continues to come on after the sensor is changed, you will need to have the engine tested for a possible rich or lean running condition. Good Luck
Yeah as above, if you have never done it before once you have a look it becomes very obvious what to do
they are normaly hard wired ie no conecter get the new on and mesure were you need to chop.they are on a big 20mm head normaly if an old car welded by now to the exhorst!
when unbolted it a simple job from there.
remember to solder the wires not just crimp as you do get bad conection and then the job is not done as ecu will not get proper signal.
You will find it scewed into the top end of your exhaust with wires coming from it , buy a new one and you will recognise it ,all you need then is the right size spanner usually 22mm and strength to undo it , don't forget to unplug wires . its not rocket science .at a girl have a bash
