What do you have to look out for when buying a secondhand jet ski?

The pure nature of a Jet Ski indicates that it has been thrashed from the day the owner bought it. I have known 3 people who have bought second hand jet skis privately and have lived (JUST!!) to regret it. The engine system runs at full revs and is punished to the point of exhaustion that's why anybody in the know sells them before they finally give up the ghost. You are better off buying one from a dealer who will guarantee the the ski for at least 3 months you may pay a bit over the market value but this way you have some security for a short period

ya sure ya want a second hand jet ski ? everytime I've ever seen anyone on a jet ski, they're always beating the snot out of it, and almost getting run over by boats, and on one occassion, I saw one slam into a boat, HARD ! I had to hang on to the guy off the side of my boat, he was so injured that I could'nt get him out of the water, and into my boat, I called the Coast Guard on my radio, and they got him to a hospital, ya might want to think this one over again. in a crash between a jet ski and a boat, the boat always wins ! That little S.O.B. sent me home with a few more grey hairs on my head that night, and I did'nt even know him, or was invloved in the crash ! ! he lived, called and thanked me for saving his life, as did his mother, SUCH A NICE KID TOO ! Look out for bullet holes if it's been used in shallow water salt water.
First of all, ask the owner if you can test drive ata local lake. Check it out, how it rides with amount of weight you prepare to loading it with. Have a little fun and recreational use with it, idle, whatever. Then when its out of the water, examine it for dents, scratches, etc.
