Acceleration on A Car?
Answers:
A close ratio gearbox or maybe nitros
put ur foot on the accelerator and press down this normally works for me
Gearing - Its all down to gearing
Diff & final drive and get as much weight as you can off the car
get yourself an induction kit or something m8 or just for top end get the smallest wheels you can or last resort get nos that's **** hot

Only know of this site but don't know if your car is a diesel or not!
I live on a long, straight road with a 60mph limit - you can really open up along there. It dips down and round a corner with a 30mph limit, and then there's a crossroads, where 21 people have been killed in recent years. The people coming down the hill don't have time to stop if there's a car crossing; the cars crossing have got nowhere to go if someone's speeding down the hill.
How would you feel if it was your mate, or your Mum? Or if someone had to tell them it was you?
Most of the accidents feature young men aged 16 -24. Something tells me you fit into this category. Please take it easy on the roads - if you want the thrill of speed, for goodness' sake go on a race track where you won't kill the rest of us.
I wonder if the 'thumbs down' sign goes into double figures?
Lightening the flywheel helps, as would smaller wheels, different gear ratio/box ( can't help with the details there you would have to research other ford box ratios)
Is airflow meter mechanical? You can slacken the spring on some to decieve the engine into pumping more fuel in. Induction kit and free flowing exhaust are a must, all engines struggle to 'breathe' as standard.
Nitrus is help too
Or if you want to acclerate at a really silly speed, sell the rot box and buy a bike
Buy a quicker car then u wont have to mess about with it will ya?
Buy a bike if you want speed - not many cars can take a bike on acceleration :)
First thing to do is to open up your exhaust system. Back pressure is the number one reason for sluggish off-the-line starts. Replace the stock catylitic converter with a performance cat, and use larger diamter tubing, at least 2 inch diameter. The exhaust manifold likewise needs to be replaced with a equal length tubing header system(my preference is one with an aluminized finish. Next, if you still have any money left, open up your induction system. Using a cold induction system helps the getty-up, and a performance filter will definately help. These are the easiest exterior mods you can do and get the best bang for the buck. After these are done, if you still have too much money in your wallet, you need to make some serious decissions on whether you dive in and mod the rear end, then tranny, then engine(possibley adding turbo or NOS or both), but at this point my recommendation is to sell the car and buy one that has geetty-up and go right from the start.
Here are the top 4 ways:
1 reflash your engine's computer or add a piggy back chip
2 change the rear gear
3 add nitrous
4 add a turbo
If you wish to set your hair really on fire and have $$ to do so..
Bigger intake, trottle body and induction system
Bigger fuel rails and injectors with high flow fuel pump
Add a racing spec ignition coil along with racing spec plugs and wires.
Bigger exhaust manifold, remove mufflers and cats, large diameter exhaust tips. (loud but fast)
Put on drag radial tires
then add a big turbo
You'll need a heavy duty clutch to handle the power as well as an alluminum drive shaft and might as well add a short throw shifter.
Put a 100 shot of NOS on top of that
Make sure you get a professional tune so all the new components are talking to each other and working together.
Go to your local drag strip
Hang on tight.
Please don't street race with these components. It's really not safe for you and us on the road. If you have to settle a grudge, take it to the strip. Most have weekly open to public events to show off what your mods can do and legally beat the brakes of anyone you wish in a controlled environment.
sounds like u need to get a life not take 1 or 2 or 3
You need to learn to spell then your whole life will accelerate into the fast lane.
fit a gearbox from a diesel car as the gear ratio is much shorter therefore very quick pull off and quick gear changes however top speed will suffer majorly good luck
a different profile camshaft or a different ratio differential
Have your flywheel be lightened. Convert body parts to fiberglass. Lighten the car (remove, spare tires, jack, tools etc). For rear wheel drive, convert drive shaft to lighter material aluminum/carbon/fiberglass. Advance timing a little further. Get the best carburetor for your engine. Make sure tires grip the road surface very well, without this you may have good acceleration but you just be spinning your drive wheels above the road.
Lose weight, ditch the fat bird, if it is front wheel drive lose the rear seats, spare wheel, empty the boot, leave the trolley Jack and toolkit behind, unhitch the caravan.
Nitrous would help as would a larger engine because acceleration needs Torque.
Perhaps a different gearbox would help as would wider tyres, but dont go silly when you get to 8.5 sec 0 to 60 times technique kicks in, I cannot use full throttle between 2000 and 3000 rpm in first without provoking wheelspin in a standard MG Maestro, and in the wet it is embarassing, but they are 1 sec faster 0 to 60 than the golf GTi.
If you do optimise your car for acceleration then it will be thoroughly unpleasant in town, you need a high first gear to avoid excessive wheelspin, and a low one for traffic,
second gear and heavy right foot. but if your cars crap you mayaswell 4get it its not gonna happen
Most of the above answers and a lower final drive ratio.
Happy speeding. Just be careful though.
If you have a manual transmission, you might do okay by leaving it in the first gear a bit longer, then the second. My Toyota doesn't really start to hit its power curve (where acceleration really picks up, and it moves faster) until I hit about 3500 RPM. It has a 1.5L in it. If your car is an automatic, with a top speed lock out, you can lock out the top gear and get a little more out of it too. It is a little button on the side of the stick or on the console on many models.
Otherwise, a performance computer chip, faster cam, and other performance options, even a turbo are among the options.
Fit a lower ratio gearbox , or smaller wheels which will lower the ratio, fit a turbo engine, fit a sports engine , or buy a fast car
buy your self a nitrous oxide injection system. you can decide how much power you want and choose jet(s) accordingly. cheap(ish) and very effective. simple installation if you are mechanically minded. guaranteed results!
