What is the law regarding the carrying of materials on the roof of a van to and from the work place.?

i.e Maximum length of materials, height of materials and weight of materials.

Answers:
total truck height bust be below 11'4'', if the length sticks out more than 3 feet from the van, you must place a red flag at its end so drivers can be aware.. length cannot exceed 5 feet on either end. Weight is not a factor, as long as the van can sustain it. Read your owners manual to find max load on top.

good luck
Rule 1 don't let the crap fly off the roof
the max weight must not exceed the design of the roof rack and the van
I suspect the rules are different from state to state.
The amount the load projects from the van either to either side, front, and rear ought to be regulated and you may find the data on a states MVA site.
The height also should be there.
I suspect the weight is not regulated as carrying capacity will be different for every type of vehicle.
If there is any problem you'll get the ticket most likely.
