Motoring costs?
Answers:
I've just taken over the running of my father's car which he had for years. We went thru all the receipts etc for work done, services, etc and reckoned on £500-£600 a year on running the car, not including tax and insurance
Add p the depreciation cost which is about 40% of the cost new in the first year, the servicing based on 12000miles per year, and that is about it.
It depends upon the cost of the car, pollution band, tax, etc, and cost of petrol, etc. In any case, not counting cost of buying the car, probably Kate's £500-£600 plus more for inflation is probably a very close estimate.
Reading the Times reviews, I am lead to believe the smartest choices in UK cars are to buy used. That rule applies in other countries as well.
I drive a little car with modestly ranged engine, 1.5 Litre. Moderate pollution, adequate power.
I looked at overall economy and enough power to get me moving before a Chelsea Tractor made road mince out of me. I yearn for the days of the 1969 Cortina, a bit heavy, but decently fast, room inside, but not too good gas mileage.
It is enough to make you cry, I'll tell you that! Insurance, depreciation, maintenance, road tax, accessories, buying and selling costs. Try the link below.
