You can set the distance from the camera that you'd like your Tom Tom to warn you of the camera. I have mine set up so that it warns me of mobile camera sites about 3times the distance of the others to give me plenty of chance of seeing them before they see me.

Yes, but you can't guarantee that it is up to date, and sometimes it warns you too late.
I regularly break the variable speed limit on the M25, my tom tom beeps at me but I have yet to get a ticket, so it is of limited use.
