Bought a car but have found the locking wheel nut is damaged any ideas on how to remove?

I need to replace the tyres

Answers:
i am a tire fitter and depending on size it should be 19 20 21 socket from a ratchet kit , put the 20 on first and if it fits get the 19 and a hammer hit the 19 onto the locking not and undo,, might need a vice to un part them tho good luck
most tire shops have a tool for removing damaged ones ,talk to a local shop
Any wrecker service or tire shop should be able to solve your problem.
Buy a nut splitter from a tool shop, this will split the nut and it will fall off.
Try using a locking wrench, i think its called a vise grip, i lost my key and all i used was a vise grip and some elbow grease and it came right off!
I grind flats spots on the sides of the nut so I can get a wrench on it.
If you are lucky the nut adaptor will still fit. Failing that you will have to get the tyre fitters to remove it/them. They will have probably come across this problem before. They will probably have to be drilled out.
Most auto parts store sell special sockets to remove lock nuts with lost key nuts. Call the tire shop that you are going to use and ask them . Remember , you are fixing to spend $400 bucks , let them earn their money.
find a 1/2 in drive socket that will fit tightly over the lock and drive it on with a hammer,i have done this many times, sometimes you can use large vise grips, or they make a tool for this
Sears sales a nut cutter that works well
driving a socket on is your besst bet but sometimes one fo the ends of a 4way might work if you drive it on
A TYRE GARAGE HAS A SPECIAL TOOL THEY USE IF NOT DRILL IT OUT
Like Mike says use a 1/2" drive socket, but ideally an old or cheap one not part of your best tool kit, why, because you will ruin it, I have split several and reinforced them with a piece of pipe.
Keep the damaged socket with the spare wheel for next time you damage one.
I chucked mine away, i dont clean the wheels so nobody wants to steal them anyway.
Special sockets are available expressly for the purpose. See link below.
Hammer and chisel. Place the chisel in a rivit that will hold it, then knock it round with a hammer. Will take a while but you'll get it without too much bother.
