Why do people get breakdown cover?

I know to my cost the risk of not having breakdown cover. My old Shogun's oil pump packed up on the motorway at 75mph destroying the engine. To be recovered home (10 miles) cost me £145.00. basic cover starts at around £40 and is worth having. Last year the cooling fan on my Rover packed up and recovery for car and caravan from Plymouth to Kent would have cost £700 without insurance.

Alot of towing companies will not even come and get you if you don't have towing insurance. They like to make sure that they will get paid, especially if you travel out of state or out of your local area alot, it is pretty much a necessity.

Not sure about other people but I get it for the little sticker that you get for your car window. Looks really, really cool. If you get really lucky they give you a funny little card to put in your wallet - that comes in really handy if you ever need a funny little card to show someone.
You know that not every body has the confidence to ripout the diff off their 1968 triumph herald on the M6 in the rain with hardly any fuel, the battery on your mobile low ,gasping for a pee at three in the morning..7 hours late to meet your girlfriends parents. suddenly then that £39 looks incredabley good value for money!
I would'nt be without! I dont know anything about cars and i travel to and from work 216 miles aweek! and yes i have broke down from time to time not often but i have! Breakdown cover= Peace of mind!
If I breakdown - I phone the RAC - if they cant fix you on the spot - they tow/or lift your car , take you to where you want to go - takes the car to the dealership/garage then arranges for a courtesy car to be dropped off - and then my Insurance company takes over from there.

Because it will cost you over £130 to get towed off the motorway if you breakdown or have an accident. Also the Police will only give you 2hrs before they remove it!!
For peace of mind anyone can breakdown and you can bet your bottom dollar that it will be at the most inconveniant time so having breakdown cover means you don't have to worry you are covered any where.It would cost a fortune if you broke down on the motorway and didn't have breakdown cover.
