The government say eating while driving is dangerous. I think smoking when driving is more dangerous, do you?
Answers:
Absolutely agree! Eating is bad enough, but at least you can put the food down on your lap between bites. Smoking, however, involves taking the cigarette out of the packet, lighting it, holding it, getting rid of the ash and subsequently stubbing it out. Whilst holding the wheel and a cigarette at the same time, control of the wheel during an 'incident' must be impaired. A lot of people either don't have ashtrays in their cars, or they don't want to make then dirty!, as I've observed so many people throwing lighted cigarette ends from the car window, which in itself is a very dangerous practice, especially during hot, dry weather.
both are dangerous
totally agree.
was in nasty accident on motorway a couple of months ago when idiot behind me "took his eyes off the road for a minute" (his words) to light a cigarette (from what I could see in my mirror)
hot stick in your mouth while driving? not safe
lighting it while driving - losing concentration? not safe.
I think both are
Personally no. I always smoke when driving.
Its no more dangerous than eating.both are the same!! What pisses me off is drivers throwing their cigarette butts out the window.
Changing CD's when driving is just as dangerous!!
Either way, if you have an accident, you are going to choke on whatever is in your mouth at the time.. especially if your airbag rams it down your throat. Best to pull over and enjoy your snack and be a little late rather than die of choking.
Doing anything distracting while driving can be "potentially" dangerous. I don't think smoking is more dangerous that anything else.
Absolutely! Both are dangerous, but smoking is more so. Is all that easy to drive straight with smoke in your eye or worst a lit cigarette in your lap!
i think both are just as dangerous both can cause serious accidents, looking down for food or only using one hand while eating and smoking because if you threw a cigarette out of the window it could come back in etc. so i think both are dangerous. so is using a mobile phone whilst driving.
both are you can easily become distracted .but last week I saw a man reading a novel when driving on a motorway. so my prize goes to that idiot
Both are dangerous, but more people are killed by inappropriate speed
I completely agree. If it's not bad enough to have a burning object in a very incenduarry environment, then it's the distracting way that people smoke them and light them and its the disgusting way that you smokers tend to throw a lit cigarette onto the ropadside when you've had enough of it. Vile!
i've done lots of bongs while driving or was i flying carnt remember im hungery
i agree, only the other day i had to brake hard and my peas slipped off my plate. and i can see why smoking and driviing is dangerous, there i was, cooking some heroin, and damn if i didnt drop my tinfoil and my lighter as i swerved to avoid a granny and her two grandchildren as they were crossing a zebra crossing. man its so dangerous, i almost dropped my stash.and dont get me strted about drinking and driving. at speeds over 120mph, teh vibration causes teh cans to pressurise, ansd when i open one it sprays beer and froth all over teh windscreen. what a waste of good beer.
yes, i 'm taking the mick. sorry folks, i know its serious, but i dont drink, i dont smoke and i drive a volvo. and does eating a mars behind the wheel constitute a hazard, or does it have to be a kebab and chips? is water alright, or can i chug on a botle of Krug at the lights.
what about the kids, sureley theyre more dangerous than anytihng else, whingeing, moaning, screaming and asking if were there yet! now thats a distraction with far greater impact on my driving than anyting else. maybe the Govt can iintroduce a back seat ASBO as theyve stopped me clipping them around the ear.
Most people can smoke with the occasional use of one hand, eating requires 1 hand all the time and sometimes 2!
In my opinion, neither are safe but then neither is speeding but we are all guilty of that from time to time.
There's a 33% chance that smoking will kill you - whether you drive or not.
both are better than biting your toe nails
Anything that takes your mind and eyes off the road is dangerous in mine. There are too many jack ****** out there to take any chances at all.
see tailgators rant.
Driving is dangerous full stop. Half a ton of metal is a potential lethal object when it's moving, no matter what you're doing. Some people can eat/smoke/drink water and be perfectly safe while driving while other people will never be safe behind the wheel. We're all different and have different abilities. Looking at your speedo could be considered dangerous as your eyes are off the road, but with so many speed cameras we all have to check a lot more, and therefore our eyes are off the road more.
We should all take a bit more care and be a bit more respectful of other road users. I ride a motorcycle and if I get hit by one more lit cigarette/food wrapper/drinks can or if one more person pulls out in front of me after looking, I'm gonna seriously lose my temper. Please use your mirrors, that's what they're for, and be careful out there.
Both are as dangerous as each other, and can result in points and a fine, for not being in proper control of a vehicle.
you obviously don't smoke its not the safest thing to do but driving can be very stressful and is sometimes a must although stopping to light up is better
It is dangerous but it'll take about 40 years to get you!
Germany has been talking about a ban recently because it can be distracting.
And some states in the US are trying to ban smoking in the car with children saying it is a form of child abuse!
Don't politicians have enough to do??
In the film Ronin, Robert DeNiro wouldn't let them smoke in the car at night as it affected night vision - very important when you are driving into an ambush!
So take care out there!
Anything that involves taking your hands of the wheel is dangerous
Absolutely! I hate seeing people smoke whilst they drive. I agree that it's as dangerous as smoking, but I don't hear of people dying from passive eating. The other day I saw 2 women in a car with 4 kids, and the driver was leaning over to accept a light for her cigarette from the mother nursing her child in her arms and feeding her, whilst the mother feeding the child was smoking herself. Pure genius. People who reckon that smoking whilst driving isn't dangerous should think again
most people who say smoking is dangerous are non smokers, so lets ban it shall we, while we are at it ban eating and drinking, oh and seeing as how you need so much concentration to drive then ban car hi-fi's and sat nav, along with talking to passengers and ferreting about for childrens toys.
a bit over the top you think, well ive witnessed appauling driving from people doing all of the above so how far do you want to go?
Nah, its all bo11ocks! Just because theres a few people that struggle to drive with two hands on the wheel never mind one, they assume we are all incompetant fools who cant drive, yet its cool for the traffic cops to tuck into a McD's while fleeing down the motorway at a 100MPH (With no blue lights on I might add!). You shouldn't smoke, full stop, its revolting! It's the same with mobiles, it's perfectly safe for people who know what they are doing! It's just the government doing its nannying bit again, not allowed to do anything incase we hurt ourselves!
