Claiming no bonus from abroad?
Why are the british insurances make it dependend ho long you are holding a valid driving license? When I have a car I am insuring my car, not myself.
I was driving for ages in Germany without an accident, unless my son crashed my car.
Answers:
If your son was driving on his own insurance, you've got no problem, if he was driving on yours, and there was a claim , you've lost your no claims bonus
Because driving records from other countries are not available. So you are treated as if you don't have a driving record.
UK -If you can provide a letter, written in english, which states how much nCD you earned abroad, there are a few insurance companies who will allow you to transfer this over (find out if your son was on your policy or his own when he crashed the car.this will decide whether you lost your NCB or not). The easiest way for you to find these companies is to call the big brokers/intermediaries for your quotes. They will then contact the policy underwriters to ask them to quote. You will need a bit of patience.
With regards to the way car insurance works, because you are the car driver and you are in control of the car, this means that you are the "risk", ie your driving capabilities and experience are intregal to the policy. Yes, it is the car that is insured, not you, but you are the one who influences if the car is well driven. Its not always fair but it does make sense.
