Looking for info about tall ship sea schooner Captain Scott?
Answers:
If you are asking of the only " Captain Scott " I know of / recent , she was built in Buckie ( just North of and around the corner from Aberdeen and about halfway along to Inverness ) in the late 1960s. early '7os.
She sailed for a few years under the Red Ensign ( unless the skipper was R.N.V.R. ) then she was sold out of the U.K. and went to somewhere up the Persian ( perishing ) Gulf and if my memory serves me well I believe into the Muscat of Oman , where she is probably still sailing today if she has been well maintained otherwise the warm water Teredo worms will all be out to lunch .
Perhaps someone will be able to provide more specefic info @
www.merchantnavy.com . . . or
www.allatsea.cx . . . or
You might try finding out something via S.T.S. ( U.K. Sail Training Association / Society ) who will be able to help . Have trouble finding them pump in " Winston Churchill " Malcolm Miller " two other British sail trainig vessels and something shall come up , Bon Voyage .
The schooner `Captain Scott` offers boys an opportunity to learn seamanship. We see the schooner leaving Plockton, Ross-shire with a complement of 36 trainees, aged between 16-21 years, on one of her routine 26 day voyages, which in addition to sailing instruction, includes mountain expeditions in the Scottish Highlands.
Here is a link to a film about the ship too. Also a Google link.
Here is what I was able to find.. Jim
