Anyone willing to email plans to self build sailing boat at least 16ft long?
Answers:
It will be cheaper, faster, and easier to buy a used fibreglass sailboard.
sorry, i don't have plans, but wanted to wish you luck with this project!
You don't need plans.
Get a piece of 8 by 4 feet hard board and at half or quarter scale loft out the profile of your choice.
Make up the stations first say five then cover with Marine Ply.
Cut out a profile view of the boat in thickish cardboard and balance it on a knife.
Mark this point on the cardboard measure the position to the aft waterline and increase this length by 3%.
This is the point the mast will be fixed to give you a little weather helm as distinct from an uncomfortable lee helm.
Design your sail plan find its centre of gravity and note this point on the mast.
Work out the the weight above this point provide by the wind you expect to limit it to and calculate the size of the drop keel from that.
Locate the centre of the keel under the boats hull centre line and you are finished.
The rudder should be as small as possible in line with your use of the boat.
If you are racing it around buoys sharp turns need a larger rudder.
Enjoy yourself its fun.
They are online, but I do not know the site. My boyfriend pulls them up all the time to study. He is probably going to build one this year. He has had a lot of practice though with light aircraft and other boats.
