i have a yamaha outboard engine how can i tell the age of it

A.. how long ago did ya buy it? B does it run on coal? C is it grey? D does it have an engine cowling? etc etc
There should be a tag on the side of the bracket that mounts the engine too your boat stating a serial number and year of manufacture. If this is missing, check ebay.co.uk and go into the boating section then outboard engines. Look at engines with the same colour coded hoods and it might give you a rough idea of its age
on the tilt section of the engine it will have a modle no ( like a vin plate on a car ) its the last 2 digits will give you the year
