No you dont. Your car will fail an mot if it does not have a roadworthy one, but after the mot, there is no crime, same as mot defects..you were driving with those, between the last mot, and the current fail, but no actual crime, unless blatantly unroadworthy.
If you want text book law see a text book, but no officer, stopping to see your breakdown, would charge you, as first you'd say its stolen! as many are under the car.this did actually happen to me! or say you dont know where its gone, the car is shared.it it so unlikely to result in a prosecution, IF a law does exist.
