Why do 4x4 owners still fit bull bars when they no it increases the chances of killing persons they might hit?
Answers:
Those who do proper off-roading fit them to push branches out of the way without damaging the lamps / radiator etc.
Some also use them for nudging gates that aren't quite open enough.
Some of the newer soft plastic designs might actually improve the pedestrian impact protection.
A proper metal bull-bar will also make the car less safe for the occupants in a crash, as it is a solid unit attached directly to the chassis - therefore preventing any bumper and/or crumple-zone from doing the job it was designed to do.
because they can always make and parking space fit their motor when dropping the kids off at the school gates
Because they are morons.
A> It is a style statement. I don't have a 4by4 but anyways.
B> Noone thinks when buying a car that they might hit other ppl.
As if being hit by a 2 ton truck alone won't kill them?
A lot of the reason behind it is to protect the front end in the event of an accident on or off-road. If this is an issue for you.Stay out from in front of them.
It would be nice if all of our decisions were made after considering other people wouldn't it? We just don't seem to function at that level. But it would be nice!
This is a really dumb question. Its not hard to tell that the asker of this question has never owned a 4x4. As a 4x4 owner we don't drive like you Nazi's in your little sport cars, we don't think that everytime we get on the road were playing a game of pole-position. In fact we are most likely more safe of the road then most other people, because we know what our vehicles are capable of doing. Besides if you have ever been off-roading you will find out real quick what that heavy bumper is for. You may not like it but that is the way it is.
They do it not to kill people but to kill deer. Turn on the brights and theres dinner, plus no scrates to the paint!
I don't think any one plans what accessories to buy for their vehicle, 4x4 or sports car, on the event of hitting someone. If that was the case, we would all be installing big foam bumpers "just incase". I don't see how a metal bumper or a brush guard has any more killing power than the other. If anything, in the event of mowing over a pedestrian it would atleast keep the owner from having to buy a new grill!
Congratulations on such a good question. I wanted to ask this myself! I thought according to Blair bull bars on are actually illegal now anyway. Not that anyone takes a blind bit of notice. It's like the people who talk on their mobile's while driving. Well lets hope their conscience can take it if they hit someone cos for sure that person will be dead instantly!
Because they think it gives them status, and they think it looks good, especially with a person smeared all over them.
Because they're a load of tossers who could care less about anyone else. What their 4x4 looks like is far more important than a child's life.
more important than a childs life? What kinda 5 grade W.V. awnser is that? Know why I have one? To protect front end when Im offroading and sliding on and off rocks..so are you also saying that when a police cruser has push bars they are out to kill children?
yes my Cherokee has a HUGE "roo" bar. It stops the idiot pedestians getting stuck in my grill when they forget that the road is for vehicles and the walkway is for them !And its also usefull for making the parking spaces a bit bigger !
omg you people kill me.if it's your time to go your going to go just because somebody has a bull bar doesn't mean it's going to kill somebody.i have see morons in there little sports cars serve in and out of traffic and then when they have a wreak they have to find somebody to blame.
ok if you are a farmer but silly for town runs aren,t they illegal?
