How do you clean a fiberglass hull properly?
Answers:
If you pressure wash the hull as soon as it comes out of the water, Do it then as the barnacles and other grow is still fresh and comes off alot easier.
When you have the hull cleaned off. A good product for cleaning fibre glass is called FSR (Fibreglass stain remover) You apply the gunk and it removes even deep ingrained stains .
I have used this product to clean fibre glass over all parts of ships, yachts and tenders . It has gotten all types of stains out . It is also good on paint as well.
Don't do as the one guy said and scrap it as this will damage the gel coat and unless you are a professional as this will leave a badly scratched hull needing alot of patching and these show up really well.
Good luck and have fun
Very difficult and requires a lot of patience to stop it ruining the Gel coat. If I were you I would get in touch with the yard that built her and ask for their advice.
I believe there are chemicals these days that kill off barnacles?
Good luck. Keep it pointing into wind and inspect your anti fouling as it is applied.
Power wash it.
scrape by hand with plastic scrapers
pwerwash again
Inspect/repair any cracks, nicks or osmisis
apply proprietry sealer coat if required
1 days work
I've done it with automotive buffing compound and a buffer.
hydro chloric acid will clean but wont dammage the gell coat which is important because the gel coat is the only thing keeping your fiberglass boat afloat.
This is what I do for a living. Try "Nuhull". It's the best you can use. Check out the link below. Also look at the "How To" section of that site. Good luck.
