Is there a sat/nav for rivers and canals?

Answers:
My garmin shows canals and rivers also marine beacons worldwide check out the Garmin range mine is about 3 years old they have improved since mine is small hand held and neat
Don't know but perhaps it wouldn't be a good idea after all if they can mess up road routes..
theres a gap in the market!
Sat Nav is very common on nautical vessels, I myself am a crewmember of the R.N.L.I, and we use our GPS on a day-to-day basis. Larger boats have Sat-Nav, incorporated into a auto-pilot system, along with a radar, which will warn of any close objects, the boat will sail itself, once waypoints are added.
As for canals and rivers, I believe that standard land-based GPS systems will work. On barges with no speed gague, held GPS are often used to determine speed. I've heard of people using the Tom Tom's and Magellan Meridian GPS systems on canals, you can also download software for your mobile phone too.
Sat-nav gives you location, latitude and longitude. Then you check your charts. You can download charts from maptech.com. or GPS comes with charts and maps. Yes there are charts for rivers and canals.
yes, go for garmin ,it has allt he maps.
