How much fuel does a Jumbo jet use on takeoff?
Answers:
A Boeing 747-400ER with P & W 4062 engines burns 1477lbs of fuel a minute at takeoff thrust at sea level.
63300lbf thrust x 4 x 0.35 lbs of fuel/lb of thrust/hr = 88620 lbs of fuel per hour.
I can't remember exactly how long the takeoff roll is but it is only a minute or so.
Takeoff thrust is usually reduced to the minimum necessary for safety to save the engines and reduce fuel burn by the Flight Management System/Auto throttle.
Also, inefficiencies of the engine inlets at low speeds and changes in air density will change fuel flows. Because of these factors, typically you will never get full rated thrust out of the engine.
AROUND 13000 POUND IN WEIGHT
Why do you wanna know?
normally a full tank, which is quite a lot, I think it is the equivelant of 27 ford fiesta's 1.8 litre variety,or 18 bmw 3 series.or 34 fiat pandas,or maybe 17 merc coupes, i think a mor accurate figure however is 12 VW touregs trailing a caravan each with a light load and 3 passengers, with heavy luggage, perhaps 30kg each, with a small dog etc.who cares as long as gets up up there!!
all depends on a/c weight, engine power/econ.
I thought they gave everyone curry and get them to fart at the same time. lol
