I put £5 of petrol in my car and it was all gone in about 10 mins and was smoking heavily can anyone help?

smoke if white is usually water and black is oil. but sounds klike you may have a leak from a fuel line which is very dangerous. have a mechanic look at it right away.
I recon your car engine is f+@ked.

petrol is leaking somewhere, and your engine is burning oil only, probably gone by now
u did put petrol in didnt you?it wasnt diesel was it?
How far did you travel in that 10 minutes? If it was 25 miles in town that could be about right. You may have a fuel leek so check all joints etc.
If engine is smoking a lot you are getting oil into the upper cylinder where the plugs are and it is burning.
Need new piston rings or if the bores are very worn then a rebore or new engine. It could be carbon deposits on the cylinder head around the plugs.
I think you may have put in Diesel instead of petrol by mistake.
If the car is fuel injected, have your favorite mechanic to check the fuel pressure regulator if may have gone bad and is sucking fuel unmetered in to the engine

You definitely have a carb or injector problem with over fueling. I am surprised that it is still running.
If its and injection car its got a computer fault. The computer is telling it to chuck in far too much fuel to the mix but no added air is going in. This means that there is only enough air to burn say half the fuel in the piston, the other half gets chucked out the exhaust, which will come out as smoke. You need either a new injector system 9recommended) or you could take a change and just replace teh computer loom. Normally the injectors will be worn out too if this has been going on for long though.
Hum, the ideas about leaks and so on sound like possibilities, but, perhaps indeed you have an injector or injectors dumping fuel at a huge rate. If you pull one plug at a time, and one is horribly wet, then that is the injector. it not the injector itself, then it would probably an electronic problem on a sensor or computer side.
Good luck. Also, I would probably not drive the car until it was throughly checked out. Oh one other hint, check the oil, if it is very thin, it may smell of gas. If so, it is getting to your oil, and the oil could be getting past the rings, and all cylnders are fouled.
If the oil looks like choco milk, then you also have coolant getting into the oil. The engine would be near or toasted.
