My car heaters are not working.?
Answers:
A couple of things it could be. First check your water level, if it has dropped there may not be enough water in the system to make the heater work effectively. Secondly the problem could be a sticky thermostat. Fairly cheap to buy from a motorist centre and should only take a few Min's to fit. I would personally feel that this is the most probable cause of the problem.
9 times out of 10 the thermostat is stuck open. should cost less than $100 at a shop!!
check the thermostat. its at the end of the hose which goes from the top of the radiator. it shoudl be hot..(when the engines been running for 10 minutes) if not hot..check water level and top it up..if stil not hot go find a garage..
cost, well a thermostat is aroudn 3 quid..so below 50 quid to get it sorted.
If it's the thermostat - not too expensive. But from a safety point of view your radiator could have leaked all the water out - get this checked out asap.it's not a question of expense.your car could be seriously damaged without a properly functioning radiator.
buy the book 4 your car and check the troubleshooting section
the thermostat is more than likey to be broken this must be replaced then your heater will work
If the temperature gauge shows normal and the heater blows cold
air, then it is not the Thermostat but more likely an airlock caused by low coolant level, Bleed the system from the highest possible point.
If the temperature is low, change the thermostat.
If the heater does not blow, check the fuse, if not the fuse then it could be the motor, which is bad news on many vehicles, never done a Kia but some are absolute B******s needing the Dash board out for access.
the vacum might of gon its a kia its worse than a skoda man get another car
Top it to the brim with water, as you may not have enough in the engine and the heater is the first thing that gets cut out of the circuit if the engine runs low. If this isn't the problem you either need a new thermostat which will cost about £10 to buy and 10minutes labour to fit if you can do it yourself.
If the fans aren't working at all then check your fuses. i'm guessing they are though as heat will still come through when your moving.
To help you diagnose it, the thermostat will have resulted in the engine running cold meaning your probably getting through a lot more fuel than normal, and a shortage of water could cause your engine temperature to remain less than steady as the engine doesn't have the coolant it needs to control the temp.
At this time of year if your in Northern Europe (i.e britain) its probably the thermostat as the sudden changes in temperature can cause them to seize up as they have to operate very differently.
