can you please give me tipsy

Depends on what car you want to buy, if you are just looking for a car in a certain price brand and aren't too bothered about make / model then look at what is on offer locally. The advantage of buying off a local dealer is you are protected by the sale of goods act, if the car turns out to be a lemon, not fit for purpose i.e. driving, they either have to fix it or give you your money back within a short period (a couple of weeks?). If you buy off a private individual you aren't covered in the same way.
If you have a definite idea of what car you want then Ebay and other Internet car sites are a good way of tracking a car down. I've bought 3 cars off Ebay, they were good and I first saw the car s when I went to collect them, the cars were in England I live in Ireland, I only paid up when I saw the cars and I have reasonable mechanical knowledge about the specific cars I was buying.
car dealers rip you off, and you don't know what your getting on e-bay. Go to autotrader.com, and find the car your looking for. If you have the cash, I would recommend private seller cause you will not be hit with extra charges, and maybe they can fudge the numbers if you have the cash to pay for it if you know what I mean.
Try one of the car supermarket places like Car Giant. You get a years warantee, the cars are usually inspected and good quality, and they are general much cheaper than a local used cat dealer. DONT buy from Ebay. You really don't know what you're getting and the cars usually aren't backed up with any warantee.
Never buy a car you cant test drive.!!
Either my m8 got a car on ebay and was well reliable, dealers maybe more expensive but you speak to them face to face and see the car and can check it over before you buy!!
Hi,

Go to your local dealer or car auction at least you can see the car. Take someone who knows a bit about cars. Look for wear on the pedals for clues to mileage. Lift cover up in boot and look of rust.

Gald to help.
Ebay is worth a look, but you're probably better off doing it the old fashioned way.
Look at the autotrader website. (I think it's autotrader.co.uk) then you can search around your chosen area for all the cars you're interested in and go have a proper look at them before you commit to buy.
A 'dealer' will always incude a hefty lump of profit for himself, so buying directly will nearly always be better value, but take someone who knows what they're doing so you don't buy a lemon.
Good luck.
whichever is cheaper?
I know a few people who have bought of eBay and had no problems what so ever, they've had their cars well over 12 months now.

I really wouldn't recommend a car dealer, they're just rip offs. The best thing to do is find a friend who knows about cars and go the auctions, you can find great bargains at them. Car dealers buy cars from auctions to sell for a profit at their garages. (My friend owns his own garage.)
CAVEAT EMPTOR!!
we have bought several cars off ebay all bargains, generally the seller will let you view and test drive the car before you bid and will even let you buy the car without going through ebay anyway. A lot of people really value their feed back score so if you win the auction without viewing and the car is not as described they will be quite happy to let you walk away. It is safer to pay cash on collection then you have the option to walk away if the car is not as it should be.
E-bay is good as you get their buyer protection and if the seller screws you over you can leave them really bad feedback and stop them from selling rubbish. This usually makes sure the items are ok.
at least at the dealer you can test drive it inspect it yourself-with ebay i have made several great buys but got stuck a time or two with below average cars. with ebay if you are serious about the purchase request a vehicle inspection which runs aroun 35.00 and get a acrfax report for bot the dealer and ebay cars it tells the complete history of the car. how many owners- ever been in a accident and so on it worth the 70.00 you will spend and just take that 70 off what they want for the car
Auto trader is better.
