Should there be roadside fines for drivers who's car lights don't work!?

I saw a car that had clearly been wired up wrong. The orange side lights were permently on and the side red warning/break light flashed when it indicated to turn left.

that is very dangerous because you might have had the wrong communication understanding and caused an accident, yes they should be fined.it is every driver's responsibility to ensure the road worthiness of his/her car.
Brilliant idea but the police probably don't have enough time to check on everyone. It is illegal though if your lights don't work properly but I would imagine you only get a caution if the police see it.
there are! they are called fixed penalty tickets. used to be £25 but i'm sure they've gone up.
There is here in Michigan-$120.00 plus 2 points on your record.
Thats a crap idea.. What if your light stops working as your driving along? what are you supposed to do just leave your car on the side of the road and walk home just to avoid getting a fine?
I think you have broadened it too much. If one light blows as you are driving then i think a roadside fine is unfair, but if it is an obvious fault that has been wired up wrong and they can prove it by the roadside then yeah i agree. Only prob is how many policeofficers can tell that?
No because it might be an accident or you might be on your way to get them fixed. Would be just another way to get money out of the public like parking tickets.
Errr, STUPID!

What happens if (like in your example) it was just
a Short on the wiring Loom, Not anyones fault??
You gotta get home!
they are coverd by fixed penatly notices

and the problem you saw wasnt that they were wired up wrong, more of a short circuit problem, common on old cars
In Wisconsin, the cops give out "fix up" tickets. I haven't ever gotten one, but I have heard that as long as you have the car fixed in a listed amount of time (usually a month) and take it to the precinct for a brief inspection to show that it has been fixed, there is no fine. If you wait you do get fined. Usually cops are too busy around here to stop people for that though.
Yes there should. There are so many cars on the road with faulty lights and often they come at you and you think it is a motorcycle
Yesterday i told bloke about dodgy lights,he gave me thanks
and meybe stopped and a fine and pull by cops
Well there should be a warning and a follow-up to repair shop. But if they don't know it then they shouldn't get fined.
Nope cos I had this problem and didnt realise one of my lights were not working, I was in the middle of town where it was well lit so I didnt realise and no one bloody flashed me to let me know, I think if it depended on the circumstances yes, like if they had purposely tried to sort it out themselves.
There are in the UK because I give them out. If a light is broken completely it is a £30 ticket and if it is wired up wrong we usually give tickets that require you to get it fixed and get a garage to stamp the ticket to prove it, no fine or points.
Believe so since it is misguiding other drivers.
There are..in the US I believe it is called a non-moving violation.I understand that it can be no ones fault that it happens just as you are driving down the road.but hey, some laws have to be in place or else people wouldn't care as much about getting their lights fixed..personally, I hate it when I am driving and I come towards a car that has one light not working and the other is so bright that it blinds me..
Yes because it puts others at risk.
I dont agree with on the spot fine for this but I do agree wiyh a caution for it to be fixed and to have the caution stamped when it is repaired to be presented at a police station within a certain time if at night then the next day if early evening while garages are open that night as for the person asking the question that fault can be caused by putting a double filiment bulb into a single filiment holder
