At what age is best to stop using a car/booster seat in the UK?
Ive been told, that there is a new law for booster seats active soon, is this true?
Answers:
In the UK the law has recently or is about to be changed. I think it will state a height at which the booster cushions can stop being used.
Think about the reasoning behind it, to boost a child up to a level where the cars seat belts will protect the more during an accident.
I know they can be a nuisance but they could save your childs life. I have 3 kids, all 5 and under. They all have to have a booster cushion or child seat. It takes up loads of room and hence we have a big car - but at least they are all safer.
in America, its suggested until they are about 12 to use a booster seat if they arent tall enough to sit in a seat belt properly/comfortably. But its probably best to keep kids in the back until they are big enough. dont have to use a booster seat in my eyes.
At the age 3 years old
There's typically a height or weight limit not an age limit
I do know that in the States, any child of 6 and under has to have an appropriate seat/booster.
I think that's about right for here too, but don't know the legalities of the issue.
Safety is always paramount. Seems like a good idea, the number of kids you see hanging between the front seats..
Not familiar with UK law, but general rule of thumb:
A COMBINATION OF ALL THESE:
>when your child is no longer trying to squirm around in seat,
>plus old enough to understand dangers of being unrestrained,
>Tall enough to reach to base of headrest,
>PARENTAL common sense.
There isn't an age.safety comes first!!

not younger than SIX ! not 3 height should be at least 4'9 You can find several different styles of seats some with back and some with no backs, the ones with no backs a great for older children. (5-6) Helps them to be able to look out the windows but still be safe.
