Is anyone as fed up as I am with the English flags flying out of car windows?And is it legal or indeed safe?

can not remember where i saw this but think its a good answer to you Q

THIS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORT INITIATIVE HAS BEEN RE-LAUNCHED, MAY 2006.
Information Release.
Due to the poor quality of driving in England, the Department of Transport has now devised a new scheme in order to
identify poor drivers and give good drivers the opportunity to recognise them while driving.
Examples of poor driving include:
-overtaking in dangerous places;
-hovering within one inch of the car in front;
-stopping sharply;
-speeding in residential areas;
-pulling out without indication;
-performing U turns inappropriately in busy highstreets;
-under taking on motorways and
-taking up more than one lane in multi lane roads,
Those drivers who are found to be driving badly will be issued with flags, white with a red cross,
signifying their inability to drive properly. These flags must be clipped to a door of the car and
be visible to all other drivers and pedestrians.
Those drivers who have shown particularly poor driving skills will be required to display a flag
on EACH SIDE of the car to indicate their greater lack of skill and general lower intelligence to the general public.
Please circulate this to as many other motorists as you can so that drivers and pedestrians will
be aware of the meaning of these flags.
Department of Transport.

Strange. Here, the flags flying out of the cars are all German.
It is legal but there has been a case in the UK where a horse was spooked by a flag on a car and the driver was not covered on the insurance for the consequences.
i think that it is good they want to support their side. but they should tone it down a bit until the team have really shown what they can do..in the quarters or semis!

Still that's life eh?

:-)
No i'm not fed up, it's great people wanna support their team. Have you heard any reports of flags causing accidents? I haven't. An yes I guess it's legal or there would be a lot of people arrested.
I'd have to disagree with you, I'm very pleased to see that the English are finally taking pride and passion in their country, I don't know why the St. Georges flag has taken on a negative stigma, perhaps by association of Far Right Nationalist groups like the BNP?

I think it's about time we take back the flag to represent the large majority of kind hearted, good natured people of England. As to answer the legalities, I lack any legal knowledge so I'll abstain from answering that.

In America it seems that the Stars & Stripes of the American flag seem to unite the nation, it's a shame that we're less patriotic here in England. Although we only seem to be patriotic during sporting events I hope the trend continues to all aspects of life.

God save the Queen.
Get a life you boring old fart!
Stop being a killjoy. Don't think shops would be allowed to sell them if they were illegal and there'd be a hell of a lot of arrests. Be proud and support your country before displaying any kind of patriotism is deemed politically incorrect. Anyway, it's only once every four years!
It is illegal to stain front side windows in many places. I would consider a flag to be a bigger obstruction of view than transparent stain.
I'm afraid it is legal and safe - but they do look tacky don't they? It's a chav thing.
steve* is so right. they do all seem to be german! oh and i have seen the odd italian ones too.
its chav ,and looks mental on some cars i found one with 6 on! nugget !! its doin my head in too.i do wish my side will do well,but its got out of hand now.they are all overpaid,and rubbish,the minute we meet a quality side ,you ll see the difference .then the fighting will start over there ! shame .
put them on 300 quid a week and make them play for there money ! no im not an old fart ,i used to love football ,and have also had trials for liverpool .
as far as i am aware it is safe and legal we bought some but then decided against using them when we heard that as it affects the aerodynamics of the car it can cost £1 an hour more in fuel to run the car
They're actually a new legal requirement. People with below average IQ are now required by the DVLA and Law to display a flag with a red cross on a white background. Those in the lowest percentile must display two, and those who suffer Tourette's as well must display three.
I don't know if this will get filtered out, but me and my friends refer to them as "twat flags".
havin flags is a retarded idea, wots the point, le coupe du monde is only on for 1 month
I take it your not ENGLISH then & u do not LOVE this country, I have 2 flags on my car & one on my house, I do not follow football, BUT AT LEAST I AM PROUD TO BE ENGLISH
SO PUT UP OR SHUT UP, OR LEAVE
I think they look a bit sad really, they probably not illeagal but i'd check your car insurance cos i bet they could invalidate your insurance if you have an accident
Why be fed up? What's wrong with a little national pride?? It's a damn site better than some hooligans and yobs ganging up on "outsiders", wouldn't you agree?

If you're not English, fly your own jack proudly and damn the nay-sayers!

BTW, if you think English drivers are bad, take a holiday in Shanghai! You'll be so glad to get back to the polite, conservative motorists in your Green and Verdant Land that you'll NEVER complain again.
They are very annoying, don't think we should go to the point of banning them though.

What really annoys me is the 'baby/princess/special person on board' it seems to make the driver behave like a total idiot. Thought the point of these are to warn other drivers to keep their distance, it appears that the drivers forget all too quickly.

When you've spent enough money on a car and maintain it with pride you don't need to spoil the effect with useless toys, comedy red noses from 1998 or those awful flags.

I'll wager that when the World Cup finishes they won't disappear that quickly.

Come on England!!
THE ONLY FLAG THAT SOULD BE HERE IS THE STARS AND STRIPS ANY FLAG FLOWN WITH THE STARS AND SRIPES SHOULD BE STATE FLAGS AND THATS ALL WE ARE GOING TO GIVE UP ALL IN THIS US IF WE DONT STOP THIS BS.
no, I ain't fed up.. besides, it winds up the Political Correctness idiots who claim flying the English flag is racist.

As far as I'm aware, it's legal... and it should be safe.. cars have had Radio aerials for years (which also stick up), and you don't hear people b*tching about them (just the stereo system attached to it).
