Nothings free and if it was would you trusts the results?

Go to RAC or The AA.
please don't be silly. Who is going to tell you data such as.Has this car being involved in an accident/does it have outstanding finance etc etc for nothing.
The dealers sometimes throw it for free, but if private buy - then I don't think so.
Its money well spent if it prevents you from buying a dodgy motor think of it that way!
never found a free site for this but ive had my last 2 cars checked and its always best to do this before buying. good luck
If you are buying from a dealer ask them to provide it, if you are buying from a private sale itll be worth the money for sure, it costs a few quid on hpi.co.uk and can save a lot of bother
