How is it that roadworkers get the white line in the middle of the road?

I always wondered, but driving through Liverpool the other day I rounded a corner and nearly killed the fella who was painting the line.
It seems they don't give him cones or protection so next time you drive round corners, keep your eyes peeled!

I've seen them driving slowly in trucks with a machine that spray paints the lines by engaging when necessary--continuously for solid lines and at intervals for broken lines. I'm sure they do it on foot as well, with the same type of spray machine, but I've never seen it that way. Hope this helps.
On most roads it's by a lorry that spray paints the stripe in a discontinuous pattern to give the broken lines, or a continuous spray to give solid lines. A similar lorry drills the holes for the cats eyes, drops on in and then fills the rest of the hole with bitumen. All automated nowadays, no more little man with a paint brush!!
