Whats the best sports car to get with a 15k budget?
Answers:
For 15k here are few options. Keep in mind, I don't know if you want a road course car where handling and breaking are of equal importance to acceleration, or if you just want a drag car, and all of these are assuming used:
- Miata: Believe it or not, this one of the best road course cars on the planet. Light, well balanced, seriously tight handling, and loads of up grade equipment available.
- Rx-7: Might have to get several years older than the others on this list to get this one.but it'll be worth it.
- Mustang or Camero. Inordinate amount upgrades available, perfect for building a drag car.
all of these cars can be had for 15k with about 50-70k mi and with a few years under their belts. All return a great amount of bang for the limited buck required to obtain them.
Lotus Elise without a doubt. Can you get an Exige for that money? - that would be super cool.
Although I've always been tempted by an s2000, it's just not hardcore.
Oh, what about a TVR? Ok, parts might be an issue but I'm sure there will be TVR specialists out there somewhere. A Tuscan in purple and you are the absolute daddy! Have you heard those things? Man, they can snap knicker elastic at 100 feet.
a used one!
mazda rx8
Hyundai Tiburon: $16K and up, but high in JD Power surveys (for its class), and Hyundai backs up their products and supports their customers with free oil changes (with coupons) and a sweet warranty.
Mustang: I don't know prices, but maybe a used one would be affordable. I see a lot on the road, and the retro styling is pretty hot -- if you want to d*mn the surveys!
with a 15k budget (assuming you're talking US $), you'll get your best value purchasing a used one.
The Mazda MX5 Miata is a good bet as a used Sports Car. Consumer Reports recommends them, and most (but not all) of their owners take good care of them. Plus, they tend to get driven less than the family cars, so they usually have lower mileage for their age. They also have some of the biggest owners clubs for any car marquee around, which helps in finding aftermarket parts, and getting tips/tricks, as well as finding a good used one for sale.
For about 15K, you should be able to pick one up that is around 4-5 years old at most.
s2000 might not be as hardcore as the elise but overall I think you'd have loads more fun in an s2000
new or used,
new Hyundai Coupe excelent handling, great equipment levels & good value for money
Used
Mazda RX8(high running costs)
Nissan 350z although 15k is probably pushing it a bit
older any TVR(reliability issues though)
Audi TT
15k Isn't much for a decent sports car but spose it depends what your looking for, a porshe boxter wouldn't be my choice but it is in our price range and great fun to drive. What about a little sporty SLK Mercedes great looking car! A 2001 -2002 lotus Elise is in your price range but again wouldn't be my choice, although they do look the part. Maybe even a Audi TT loads of them about. sure you could find your perfect sports car out of them lot
good luck.
A used Pontiac Trans Am. I have a 2001, one of the last one's made, love it. You can find a used one in the $15K price range, and much faster than any new "sports" car in that price range.
I would look at Wisebuyer's they offer free car prices and also show the reviews so you can get the best car for you http://www.wisebuyers.co.uk. Another good site is http://www.car-news.co.uk they have all new car news but their might be a car within your price range.
for 15 grand, you won't get a new sports car but 2nd hand -yes.
since it is just a weekend car i suggest a 2nd hand lotus elise, there are many 3 yr old models at 15 grand. very impractical but since it is a weekend car- no problem. the elise is fast, one of the best driving cars around becasuse of the low gravity and superb lotus engineering. as a race car, it is top notch and very fun to drive, u can take it on the track without moding it.
but if u want something more practical then maybe a 2nd hand honda civic type r, many 3 yr old models at 15 grand.
even the highly rated golf gti, 2nd hand of the new shape.
vx220 better than lotus as no k class to blow a head gasket on you, but handles just as well and cheaper to service. faster to if ya get a turbo and cheaper to insure
for track try an mr2 mk 2 2.0 gt 158hp
a mx5 1.8i, the model just replaced, 140 bhp the new one is too heavy which is why it has to have a 2.0 engine
for out and out racing an elise but go for the one with the jap engine the 111 i think its called
s2000 are great
under no circumstances buy a MG f
Subaru impreza Type R over 300 BHP with an adjustable diff which can go from rear wheel drive to 4 wheel drive .99 model serious car
lotus elise
caterham seight
westerfield
ariel atom
mazda mx5 fun and bullet proof reliability
MG TF VVC cup
BMW Z3 2.2 might even get a used Z3M roadster for 15K
suzuki capacino not powerful but a load of fun if you can find one
Mercedes slk old shape (better with the bigger engines)
probably more but my minds gone numb lol
Get a Mazda MX-5. Great handling and very cheap for what it is.
I get to drive all sorts of cars as I run a new car brokerage and get invited to drive all new models at launches. Sometimes I get them given to me by dealers for weeks at a time to keep me sweet.
With the summer just gone I am the most qualified person to answer your question. If you are looking used then the s2000 is probably the best buy. Dont bother with the elise unless you can get th toyota engine which for £15k you cant.
Now my company only supplies new cars and recently we are selling a lot of mx5, not my choice as it lack performance. Mini Cooper convertible is really cheap to run and we are seeling these for less than £200 a month at the moment.
If you have any models you want an honest opinion on just ask. Visit my website www.introcars.co.uk if you are looking for new, I can save you a lot of money. By the way we are based in essex but deliver cars nationwide. NEW ONLY
