I drive an automatic car how do you stop safely if your throttle sticks open?

Answers:
Do not panic! That is always step 1.

Turn on your hazard lights to let others know there is a problem.

Turn off the engine, but only turn the key until it just turns off and there is still electric power to the car (ie, dash lights, radio work).

Put the car in neutral and brake hard.

You should still have some steering if the wheels are turning, though it will be very difficult.

Get to the side of the road as soon as you can.

Get the car towed and checked out.
Turn the key off.
Turn off the engine. This happened to me a few years back.
You need to check your accelarator cable to see if it's frayed.
Don't drive until you fix the problem as you may kill someone.
Is this happening to you now?

Typing questions on Yahoo whilst driving isn't going to make any sort of stopping safe.
You stop safely lodging yourself into another car - lol
Use the anchor in the boot
Same as you would stop a manual car!
BRAKE & put it into Neutral. Turn engine off (using the KEY)
Shift into neutral and then turn off the engine BUT DON'T TURN THE KEY ALL THE WAY OFF. If you do, your steering wheel will lock up.
Highly unlikely, but sometimes caused by something as simple as a badly fitting car mat.
put it neutral apply the brake pull over safely and shut the ignition off. if u turn the key while you are driving you will lose power steering
DO NOT TURN OFF THE CAR! Very likely, your steering wheel will lock if you do! If your car is off, and you can't turn the wheel more than an inch or so, it is equipped with a wheel lock which engages when you turn the key to the off position. Should the throttle stick, shift the car to neutral, then proceed to stop the car. If this is happening to you now, stop driving the car and take it to a mechanic!
knock it out of drive dont turn the key cos the steering will lock then brake
Several things GUARANTEED to work.

1.Turn off the engine(do not remove key!) Your brakes will still work, and so will the steering, but it will be quite heavy.

2.push VERY hard on the brakes, these can EASILY overcome the force of the engine & end up stalling it.

3. Knock / ram it into 'N'.

4. Or if you're an ex-lorry driver in a BMW 318..ignore your common sense, (all of the above) call the police on your mobile & go for a 135mph (average speed) blast down the motorway. Just remember to slow down enough to crash into a roundabout..funny how the brakes worked then..
shift to neutral and turn off the engine
Switch off dude
switch off the engine,THEN put in neutral. (Unless you like the sight of your engine appearing through your bonnet !) Brake to a halt. Been there..done that, and I`m still alive to tell the tale !
Turn the Key off. Also if the throttle sticks try tapping the gas quickly so that you allow it space to travel back to the idle position. Be very careful! You don't want to end up launching yourself into traffic. You need to have your throttle checked and the metal rope replaced Should not be to expensive.
Maybe sudden.but, use your emergency brake and turn the ignition off.
Take key out
