If you pass your driving test abroad, can you drive in the UK without taking the UK driving test?

Answers:
Yes, go to AAA and apply for an international license. This gives you driving privileges for a period of time.
No
No, driving is different in the UK from other countries.
yes, same as if you pass your tst in the UK you can drive in the USA or any other country
That all depends on where you took your test and when. My best friend is Swiss and lives in the UK and when her Licence expired she applied to the DVLA and got a UK licence with Swiss written on it. So it depends .
Yes, if you have an international drivers license or the country of your origin is part of the common wealth
Yeah, get a special license from an international organization, like a Touring club.
Yes you can, for one year only..
yes. but get an international driver's license. just to be safe.
Yes.but to make sure.go to AAA or CAA and apply for an international driving licence.it costs approx $10.00
No!
You can drive in the UK on a foreign licence for 12 months, after that you have to take a UK driving test and gain a UK license.

It's madness I know, you can drive straight off the plane having never driven a right hand drive car on the left hand side of the road and having never seen a roundabout in your life, but after a year when you finally have some idea what you are doing you get told you can't anymore and now have to prove you are competent.but there it is, it's for tourists I guess and just doesn't take into account the mechanics of people who actually come here to live.

The problem is you have to have your application endorsed by someone who has known you personally for 2 years, which of course can be difficult when you have to apply for it after only 1 year of living here.
i dont know
yes of course but only for one year>
If you are from another EU country you can drive on your EU licence without exchanging it for a UK licence. If you are from outside the EU certain countries can drive for 1 year then you have to take a UK driving test.

The law states that your first test pass in this country you must not get six points on your licence in the first two years or you will have your licence revoked and you will have to take another test.

So lets say if you had passed your test in France and driven there for 10 years. You then move to the uk and exchange for a UK licence. Drive for another 5 years and get 6 points, no problem its just six points , you don't lose your licence because you havent taken a test in the Uk yet.

Now you want to do a Motorcycle test, you pass it and you get 6 points in your first 2 years, yes you lose the lot, its your first test pass in this country,

PS I'm a driving examiner
Only with an International Drivers license. Go down to the DMV and pick one up for like 10 bucks.
