Does a nissan Micra have a Faraday cage?
Answers:
would have to be fully enclsoed in metal..ie no WINDOWS.so no i dont believe this advertising fluff- you are isnulated from lightning by the tires/ rubber etc.
Not sure about the Micra but all cars that are of metal (steel) body construction will act as a Faraday cage.
If the blast was strong enough though and the metal thin enough it could possible melt the whole thing with you in it ;o)
Essentially, noCertainly not deliberately by design, but the truth of the matter is that lightning strikes folow the easiest path to travel along, and that you are relly very safe in a car. Despite the tyres being wet in a wet storm, the tyres themselves are still large wide lumps of insulating rubber, and car strikes are incredibly rare. Couple this to the occupants of a car sitting on nice fabric seats (insulated) and the drivers' feet being on rubber pedals, and you have one of the safeest places to be in an electrical storm. I've seen a Sierra parked under a very large arc of electricity, to simulate lightning. When it struck, the wipers worked, and that was about all that happened.
A saloon (sedan) car makes an excellent Faraday cage. Sitting inside a car is about as safe as you can get in a storm.
If a car manufacturer claims that a particular model contains a Faraday cage, it's just advertising puff.
