How do I carryout a data check on a car at an auction?

I am thinking of buying and selling cars for a living, and I will be buying from auctions, I realise that it is important to carryout these checks before buying the car.
I would like to know when i do these checks during the auction, is it best to choose the vehicle early and carry it out before the auction starts. Also not sure about the price? many thanks.

in the autotader there is often an advert for a number you can txt the reg No to to hpi it. i think its about 3 quid. you can do a full hpi over the phone with AA RAC etc for about 30 quid
Auctions are required to do this check on all cars sold by them. You pay an indemnity charge for this on top of your bid price, this will check it isn't stolen, on an HP agreement, on the Vcar register etc. Most people seem to realise this though and don't put dodgy cars like that in there, I would suggest you get to know the sound of every possible fault on a car though, because although they won't sell you a stolen car, a knackered car would be completly your responsibility. Always make checks on the clutch when the driver takes it in, check it doesn't raise too high before moving, look at and listen to the engine carefully, and listen to it as it starts, many faults in their early stages will only be heard when the car first starts.

You may know much of this already but thought i'd offer a little guidance just in case, been buying cars in auctions for years and have picked up a few tricks finally. Good luck
