How do i use car jump-leads?

First things first, it may seem a little trivial but safety first--wear goggles if you have them. If you've ever seen a battery explode you'll know why. (It does and can happen)
Inspect the battery terminals for signs of corrosion--or leakage, if you see evidence of battery acid leaking then you shouldn't attempt to jump start. (The safety factor again)
If you see corrosion of the battery cable terminals then pour some of your favorite soda--such as coca-cola or pepsi around the terminals and then rinse off with water. ( The acid from the soda will clean the terminals)
Make sure the ignition and lights etc is off in both vehicles to prevent sparks.
1-Attach the positive + (red or orange) clamp to the positive batt terminal of the dead battery
2-Connect the other end to the postive + side of the good battery
3-Connect one end of the Negative (-) cable to the Negative post of the good battery.
4-Connect the other end of the Negative(-) cable to a good solid metal part of the engine on the dead car rather than the battery. This will help prevent sparks
Start the car with the good battery then attempt to start the dead car. If it starts then proceed to remove the cables in the following order.
Disconnect the Negative (-) cable from the engine block or other ground of the car that was dead.
Remove the other end of the negative cable clamp from the negative post of the good battery.
Disconnect the Positive (+) cable from the Positive (+) post of the good battery.
Disconnect the other end of the Positive(+) cable from the Positive (+) post of the dead battery.
Hopefully your all set to go have it checked out.

red cable positive to pos terminal+ on both baterys and black cable to neg_ post on both batterys and first read both batterys and owners manual
he is wright but if yo dont know you should get help
Make sure you got them hooked up rite.
Since I'm an idiot when it comes to cars, I take a black Sharpie marker and write "RED= POSITIVE +" and "BLACK = NEGATIVE -" on the jumper cable bag. Then I also write in on the handles of the pincher things. Never started a fire yet! :)
Hi, Usedcarwise was right and pretty thorough. Another thing to consider is if the battery is actually frozen. Check to see if the battery casing has split open due to ice expansion, the sides will be rounded. Make sure if it's not a sealed battery, that your electrolyte is at the right level. At anytime during the boost, treat it as if the battery would explode(which happened before), meaning keep your body parts exposed to a minimum, especially the eyes(goggles or not). Also beware some engine chips malfunctions because of boosting. The rule of thumb..owner's manual.
