Electric steamers-does the power light go on & off 'cos its reached the temperature or 'cos its broken?!
Answers:
When you turn it on if the light is on then when it reaches operating temp then the light will go off.
If however the light is off when you plug it in and the light comes on after a short time then the light means it is now ready.
Failing that you can read the instructions that come with the steamer.
If you don't have the instructions then try and find them on the web you will be surprised on what you can find out there.
Or you can plug it in and wait a few Min's normally 10 will do and then try the steam switch. If you get steam then it works that is all you need to know.

Well that is brand specific I suppose - the ones I've seen only light up when they need to heat up again, but if it is flickering then it is more-than-likely broken.
My tefal steamer light gos off when it needs more water put into it. It switches off so it doesn't boil dry.
