This is a common problem in electronics and is known as "thermal runaway". I am the service manager for the worlds largest motorcycle audio store and do service on most all OEM systems for all the major manufactures (Honda etc. and the Clarion, Panasonic, Kyocera etc. equipment that is in the bikes).
The motorcycle environment is the worst there is for vibration damage and moisture condensation corrosion problems with electronics equipment. We quite often have your problem, turn something on and after some time it quits. Our techs use a circuit chiller to freeze down a system to locate the offending component and then change it. There is (for the more expensive units) cell phone service that does the same thing. The only problem is it is a Sony. Know one wants to service anything that says Sony on it ( no tech support, can't get parts, etc.) and their customer-no-service is not much help in most cases, but you might contact them and see if it can be serviced.
That is the weirdest thing I have ever heard.take it to the person who provides your service and explain it them.btw what made you put it in the fridge?
It puts a new slant on the term "Cold calling" !
Your phone has hardware problems, mine did the same thing. My screen was messed up, resulting it to heat up like crazy until it shuts itself down (crashing). Take it to get it fixed or get a new one. May i suggest the razr v3 or the new chocolate.
Take it back to the shop, also have a look at the book that came with it. IT should tell you the op temp
