When I subscribe to BT do I need to notify them to activate the extra lines?
Just moved to new house and only the main phone line works, should I have told BT to activate all of the points or should they have done that automatically?
Answers:
If the extra points are other lines you will need to specify each line individually
If the extra points are just extensions of the main line they should work just as soon as the main line is activated, otherwise there is a wiring fault in the house.
Note that BT did offer cheap second lines at one point (they used spare wiring that is installed with every new line), it could well be that the line you had activated was not the one connected to the extra sockets.
who is BT? and if you have any problems I would suggest you call there costumer service number.
No
the extra points in your new home have nothing to do with BT, they are only responsible for the master socket, the rest are called slave sockets, they are your responsibilty.
If you mean all the phone points in the house which are connected to the same line they should work automatically unless they are not wired properly.
If you have more than one line running from the telegraph pole to your house you need to get them activated separately as they will have different telephone numbers.
I would phone them because when I upgraded broadband, I had to phone to confirm the higher download speed, they didnt tell me this. BT have a habit of forgetting anything that would be useful to their customers without a reminder.
i don't know what onename is on about, but the others are right. most likely u've got an extra one or two phone lines in ur house, and these will have separate telephone numbers and will have to be activated separately. However, they might not necessarily be BT lines. U should call them up and ask them if they have more than one line registered at ur address. If they don't, might be a good idea to speak to ur landlord or the previous occupants and find out who the provider is for those extra lines
BT are only responsible to the main socket in the house all internal extensions are your responsibility if you want them connected you are best to do it yourself .if you call bt you will be charged £60 to connect internal cables this is called test and commission .if the extensions where all ready existing in the house (not a new site house) then the engineer should have connected them back up when fitting the mains box as existing cables are treated as insitu .the only thing to remember is that all internal cables are your responsibility and if you call your service provider and a openreach engineer is sent out you will be charged . customer service engineer with openreach bt
