What is meant . power factor.when working out electrical calculations?

Answers:
this is the definition for this in simple words...In ac circuits the difference between voltage and current is measured by this power factor.. its the cosine of the angle between the volt and current
Power factor is the difference between real and apparent power. In AC circuits, unless they are purely resistve eg light bulb (not flourescent) or electric fire, cooker etc, power is not simply voltage X current. Where there is reactance, eg electric motors, the current and the voltage do not peak at the same time. The power factor (cosine of the angle between voltage and current) is multiplied by the volt-amps to give true power.
cosine of angle between voltage and current. it is applicable in ac circuit. power=VI cos(angle)
