What is the best, reasonably priced digital camera on the market?

I've spent a lot of time doing research on Digital cameras. To boil it down to a quick answer there are several great cameras that are not expensive. Depends on what features are important to you.
There are two types of sensors commonly being sold. CCD and CMOS. CMOS sensors are cheaper to make, and so far not as good as CCD in colors and richness.
All the major electronics magazines and web sites have their own opinion on which inexpensive cameras are “the best”. I look at these about the same as I look at movie critiques, they are jaded and look for bad things to say.
While I am sure there are pros and cons to every camera, I think over all KODAC has some of the best lower priced cameras. Kodac uses only CCD sensors, and the picture quality from their cameras look rich and nice.
I started in film photography when I was 9 years old in 1961, went to digital photos in 1998. I have purchased several digital cameras, and the bargains aren't always the best choice! ( An expensive lesson for me)
What types of photos do you want to take with it?
Any of the major names are good. Nikon, Canon, Minolta, Kodak, Sony.
Go for quality and DO NOT think that the more pixels you have the better the picture.
Lens quality is more important.
Quality of the components is vital.
5 million pixels will give you all you'll ever need.
But don't go out and buy a 5 mpix. camera for £40 as it will be a load of rubbish.
