Audio cassette transfer to ipod?
What is the easiest way to transfer some old audio cassette tapes onto my ipod?

You will need cassette player(!!), phono leads and a sound card. If you use a laptop, you may need to get an external USB sound card as the 'mic' input is mono..(I got a very cheap but perfectly usable one from Hong Kong via ebay)
There are plenty of good software options out there for doing the conversion either to WAV (to make a CD) or MP3 (for your Ipod) format - some cheap, some free. do a search and you can't fail to find them.
If you get good software (I use Magix Audio Cleaning) you can set it to automatically convert to MP3 format and also set it to recognise tracks by 'listening' for the spaces. Magix also detects when the recording is finished by the lack of sound input.
There are service providers who will do the conversion for you (MP3s supplied on a CD which could then be downloaded to your Ipod via your PC). One fine example is www.cassette2cd.co.uk - there are plenty of US sites doing the same.
I don't have an ipod but I use a portable cassette player, a stereo audio lead to my sound card and LP Ripper to grab the music. LP Recorder lets me edit the file into individual mp3 tracks to play (through iTunes, usually) or burn to CD.
Both pieces of software are freely available for download.
