Mobile phone calls?

I keep getting calls from a mobile phone and when I answer there is nobody there and it just goes dead. I pressed 1471 and got the number, when I rang it . it was switched off. How can I find who it is who is calling me?? Can they be traced by BT (UK)

Answers:
If you have the number you can call BT to block the number. If the person is harrasing you verbaly then you should go to the police who will put a tap on your phone and trace the culprit.
dont do it as check you bill and guarantee they will charge you 1.50 if you call them back , it happened to me only the once as i got wise to it, dont answer and if you do, please dont call back , my advice take it!
Agree with the last answer. This is only a computer ringing your phone and you are probably being charged. let your provider know and they will be only too happy to help
It could be a predictive dialer for a cold calling/sales company. Their machine dials numbers one after the other until one answers and then connects an operator. However, often there is no operator ready so the person who answers gets a silent call.

Do a search on google for 'Silent calls' and you will see there is a big problem with this.
