my home dvd recorder is a panasonic dvd recorder-r

Answers:
Does your DVD accept mp3,s ?? if not it wont play a copy
Your DVD is not compatible with that format. I have had the same problem the manual should tell you of all compatible formats.
wrong format try and convert it to one it can play
I presume that you downloaded a film in DivX format (which can only be played on DivX compatible players) or recorded something in a format incompatible with your player (ie: not mpeg2) or you have not burnt the file to DVD correctly. You will have to convert it into a standard DVD format, change your player or be content to watch the film on your PC (you may even have the requisite outputs on your compy to play out to your TV, it's not impossible).
you need to make sure the disc is FINALISED
