Can I record a programme from the TV to my VCR when the TV is switched off. Does teh TV have to be on Standby?

Answers:
tv does not need to be on. So long as your VCR is tuned in to the relevant station and the ariel connection is fitted to the VCR then you can record without the need for the TV to be either or nor on standby
No your telly doesn't have to be switched on.
No the TV doesn't need to be on. Just make sure your VCR is set to the right channel when you record.
if you are recording from sky make sure the sky digibox is directly pluged into the vcr if from tv ariel make sure of this also therefore you can turn the tv off and enjoy low electricity bills
As long as aerial goes straight into vcr (which it almost certainly will), tv does not need to be on at all.
No there is no need for your TV to be switched on, or even on standby.

Leaving the TV off instead of on standby also saves energy !
No need for tv to be on, but DO make sure that VCR is tuned in.
yeah course you can and no tv doesnt need to be on at all
Your tv can be off, as long as your vcr is connected directly to the aerial and is tuned in. The Signal will pass through the vcr before getting to the telly. You're recording the signal, not the image off of the screen.
It doesn't matter if someone puts a brick through the TV screen, the programme will still record (although viewing the programme later on will be a bit more tricky - kids, don't try this at home).

Just make sure your Skybox is set to the correct channel before you record, or have it programmed to switch to the correct channel for the duration of the programme.
I suppose I may as well add my tuppence worth ! all prev answers are correct, to reiterate -- recordings are made from the VCR not the TV . The TV can not record anything at all, you could chuck it out the window so long as the antenna is connected to VCR and the station tuned in on the VCR. Just like all the other dudes have said ( and Dudesses ) the answer is definitely , unequivocally, NO .
