What is the difference between Plasma and LCD Tv's? No "geek" answers, please.?
Answers:
Basic differences:
LCD has a slight resolution advantage in a well-lit room.
They are generally thinner, also 10-15% lighter than plasma, and use approximately 50% less power.
They don't have a problem with "burn-in" as plasmas do, however LCDs do tend to have what is called "ghosting", where a trail is seen behind moving objects.
Plasmas have 160-170 degree viewing radius, whereas LCD loses a bit of contrast and brightness as you move from center.
As for lifespan, TV lifespan is measured as a "half-life", or the amount of time it takes for the unit to lose half its original brightness. Plasmas only have around 25,000 hours of life. In contrast, LCDs have around 55,000. With an average of 8 hours a day of viewing, that's 8 and a half years for a plasma versus 20 years for LCD.
Additionally, LCDs have a replaceable bulb. Depending on the brand and model of your LCD (the better the brand, the better the bulb), a replacement bulb can cost between $250 and $500. Plasmas, on the other hand, are totally done when they've reached their half-life as there is nothing you can do to repair the gas.
Best value for your money, in my professional opinion, LCD.
And I don't know if that was geeky or not. I could have been so much more technical, lol.
Plasmas are Gas and LCD are Liquid Crystal Display
Plasmas is rubbish LCD is better
Non-geek, okay here goes:
Plasma is rubbish, LCD is far better.
Although good old fashion Cathode still gives the best picture.
Plasma is a gas technology and new, whereas LCD is a much more mature, and so better.
plasma dies after five years or so
LCD doesn't
I just bought an LCD monitor and it rocks!
plasma is brighter and faster in response times but lcds are improving fast. The larger lcds are up there with price with plasmas
LCD is a liquid crustal display, where as plasma different colour gases. plasma is new and had developed enough yet. at the moment LCD is much better!
