Does the light in my fridge definatley go out when I close the door?
in these days of forever increasing utilities charges, how can I be sure that the light in my fridge definatley isn't burning electric when I shut the door.
Answers:
You've just solved a problem for me: My husband INSISTS that whenever he goes for a pee during the night that God turns the light on for him, and there was me, wondering where all the yellow ice was coming from!
The only way is to put a camp-bed in there and move in.
press the button and see
I guess the only way to be absolutely sure is to shut yourself in the fridge! However, you should also be able to check by looking for a small button within the door seal. If you push it, the fridge light should go out.
Easy to check by OPENING the door and then manually pressing the small switch situated either in the top frame or hinge side of the door.
USE A CAMERA THAT TAKES A PHOTO AFTER A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TIME. (DIGITAL CAMERA WOULD BEST!)
yes
yes there is a button that gets pushed in when you close the door you can push it with your finger when the door is open to test it
It shuts off. Trust me. There is a switch that is flipped when the door shuts and pushes it in.
There is usually a little shut off switch that works as you close the door. Open your door and close it slowly, poke your head around the side and see if when you close it as it gets to a certain point the light should go out. Check it and see.
YOu can soon tell. look around the inside edge where the door meets it,there will be a button of some description. If you depress it fully the light should go out if it does not you have a fault and the light will stay on even when the door is shut.
ask the penguin that lives inside. my dad told me every fridge has one.
there should be a wedge looking thing somewhere that the door touches, it will push in, if when you push it in the light goes off, then the light is off with the door closed. sometimes it looks like a button.
It's one of the many mysteries in life that will never be solved

Lets face it.. it is a tiny little light.!! But if you have words with it.no swear words though. just to make sure it turns itself off..OR take the little bulb out.
Of course it does, there is a little piston that gets pushed by the door and switches it off, push that to check it is working. If you are still worried, then take the bulb out and the fridge will never be wasting electricity via its light. Satisfied?
OR - if you have a mobile 'phone that videos, set the video going, put the phone in the fridge and close and open the door a couple of times - then you will have proof!
Since the cost of running the light bulb, when you consider it to running a fridge does it really matter.
My fridge has a button at the top so mine definitely goes out but it is not something that worries me.
The only way to be sure is to switch the fridge off at the mains each time you close the door.
You need to sit inside the fridge and close the door to check.
if its hot when you open the door it stayed on if its cold it went off if you leave the door open it will get warm but shut the door because your wasting power
one way to be sure is to manually switch it off when you opened the door.
But how could you be sure it's off when the door is shut?! (Still skeptic eh!) The digicam is a good idea but a videocam (fonecam is ok too) is better as it will record a footage of everything happening in the inside rather than a one shot pic.
then, you got all the evidence you're looking for your great question.
have a nice day!
Drill a hole in the door so you can easily check each time you close it ;)
